Curriculum
Private Lessons for all ages:
We feel that private lessons are at the heart of each individual’s musical
training. Private lessons are available for all orchestral and band instruments,
piano, guitar and voice. Individual lessons are available for any age or
skill level. Our students range in age from 3 years of age to over 65 years.
One of the greatest and most enduring gifts parents can offer their children
is exposure to the joys and creative expression of music. Many adults also
are rediscovering their love of music and finding a new creative outlet.
Weekly private lessons can be arranged at any time during the year. Care is
taken in pairing students with instructors. We offer lessons in various lengths:
30
minutes each week - $25.00
45 minutes each week - $37.50
60 minutes each week - $50.00
75 minutes each week - $62.50
All lessons are paid for by the month and students
are encouraged to pay promptly at the first of each month. Private lesson
fee includes:
• An orientation session to discuss individual goals and teacher placement.
• Weekly lessons tailored to meet each student’s needs and ability
• Regular evaluation of student development.
• Performance opportunities at the FCCMS and in the community.
• Information about and access to discounted tickets to many musical events
in the city.
• Preparation for school, scholarship, or All-State auditions.
• Coordination and help with the Honors Program.
• Preparation for Juries
Class Instruction:
Music Theory
All FCCMS students should take our Musicianship courses (Music Theory)
because every music student must learn these key essential
skills and concepts. These include reading music notation, rhythm,
pitch and listening skills and developing a good musical ear. All of
these skills are essential to learning, performing, and understanding
music, and are not easily taught in a private instrumental or vocal
lesson setting where the focus is on performance and technique.
These skills are often the very ones that lead people who study music
in their younger years to a joyful and serious appreciation of concert
music as they become adults, because they will have learned how to follow
a musical work, and have gained an appreciation and understanding of
its historical context.

Music History
Musicians should also have an understanding of the historical context of the
music they play. The study of composers and their art form focuses on the
development of musical styles and practices through time and with the influences
of cultural change, social graces, art, architecture, politics, travel, and
various technological advances.
